Metals Testing Services utilizes a breakthrough technology called Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBs). The handheld unit operates by using a pulsed, focused laser that is fired at a sample area that creates a plasma. When the plasma cools, each element emits a different colored light. The light is then analyzed and broken down into elemental percentages. This technology creates opportunities to take carbon equivalency readings on any job site with high accuracy. A report is also generated from the analyzer and can provide a breakdown of each elemental percentage. The analyzer can give CE readings of carbon, stainless and even L grade steels.
